It is one of the Settlements of the Thaiba VDC and one of the 42 Newar Settlements in the Valley acc. to U. Muller (1984). One of the 29 Rural Preservation Districts acc. to C. Pruscha (1975). Gaun as an ending of a name (also written as -gau or - gaon) means a Village (Settlement).
